AUGUSTA, GA - Georgia teams hit the hardwood for the final leg of the first session of the July live period. One of the most successful teams on the year has been the 16u Celtics. With a record of 42-1 on the year, the Celtics added the Best Buy Summer Classic to its impressive list of tournament wins this season.
At the Peach State Summer Classic the 16u Southern Kings took home the championship. The 15u Celtics joined them on the championship podium by beating the Atlanta Knicks in the championship. Evan Nolte played the lead role for the Kings with Soloman Poole leading the way for the Celtics.
The 17u under championship was won by the Carolina Raptors. The Raptors faced the Smyrna Stars in the ship eventhough the Stars lost their semi-final game to the 15u Houston Defenders. The Defenders had to catch a flight and was unable to play in the championship. The Defenders had a great run as they beat the Southern Kings in the quarterfinals.
Peach Jam saw the 16u Georgia Stars take home the hardware beating BABC in the final game by two. Marquis Hunt and Justin Seymour did the damage for the Stars.
At the NY2LA Summer Jam the 17u Celtics fell to SYF by three in the championship. The Celtics had solid wins over King James, DreamVision and Spiece Mo-Kan on the way to the ship. Kevin Ware (26 point scoring average) and Nick Jacobs (had a 20-20 game) dominated throughout and were selected to the All-Tournament team. Top 25 2011 prospect, Brandon Dawson (SYF) was selevted tournament MVP. 2012 national propects Perry Ellis (Kansas City Pray & Play) and Shabazz Muhammed (DreamVision) were also named.
